Agnes Alaverne Hodge Moore

DANVILLE – Agnes Alaverne Hodge Moore, 91, of Moore Rd., passed away Tuesday at her residence. Services will be held Saturday July 22, 2017 at 3:00PM in Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elsharath Baptist Church Cemetery. Elder Franklin Bryant and Rev. Eddie Moore will officiate. Mrs. Moore was born in Bluffton, SC, the daughter of the late Thomas Hayward Hodge, Sr. and Agnes Hiott Hodge. She was the widow of the late Arthur Lee Moore, and was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas Hayward Hodge, Jr., Albert Mallard Hodge and George Warren Hodge. She graduated as Valedictorian of her class at Bluffton High School, she attended Winthrope College in Rock Hill SC, and taught at Crandall Business College in Savannah GA. She and her husband of 55 years were married at Bull Street Baptist Church in Savannah in June 1947. They moved to Danville in 1959, where she was active in her community, having served as president of the Danville Elementary and Twiggs County High School Parent Teacher Association. She was retired from the Twiggs County Department of Family and Children Services, and has served on several county committees since her retirement. She was a lifetime member of the French Huguenot Society of South Carolina, the Women of the Moose and the National Federation of Republican Women, and was a contributor to the Republican Party. Mrs. Moore was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Savannah. Survivors include her Sons, Arthur Lee (Tracy) Moore, Jr., and John Alva Moore. Grandchildren, George Felton (Anna) Moore, Arthur Lee (Laurie) Moore III, Polly Macgill (Mark Edward) Frutchey, Tara Christina (Justin) Grant, Brittney Agnes (Lamar) Young. Great Grandchildren, Artur Lee Moore IV, Davis Gibson Moore, Brooks Anderson Moore, Mark William Frutchey, Luke Felton Frutchey, Knox Edward Frutchey, Parker Felton Moore, Breanna Lynn Maddox, Macie Agnes Young. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Friday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Elsharath Baptist Church or to Mount Zion Baptist Church, or your favorite charity. Reece Funeral Home in Jeffersonville has charge of arrangements
