Sarah Neomia Dubose Chance

March 31, 1927 — March 15, 2024

Neomia D. Chance

DANVILLE - Sarah Neomia DuBose Chance, of GA Hwy 358, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, March 15, at her residence surrounded in love by family and friends. She was born on March 31, 1927, and would have been 97 on Easter Sunday.

Celebration Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Dwayne Bedingfield and Rev. Curt Montgomery will officiate.

Mrs. Chance was born in Tennille, Ga, and was the daughter of the late Samuel Dennis and Annie Lee Bussell DuBose. She was the widow of the late John E. Chance, Sr. They were married for 64 years until his passing in 2010. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Carroll DuBose, Flemon Dubose, Howard DuBose, Heyward DuBose, Calvin DuBose, and by three sisters, Mattie Bell Lane, Hazel Mimbs, and Joyce Stokes.

She retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company in 1985 with 40 years of service. She began her employment as a telephone switchboard operator in the Cherry St. building in downtown Macon. As she advanced in her career, she worked in the Warner Robins and Dublin assignment offices. She concluded her service by a return to the Macon office on Eisenhower Pkwy. Mrs. Chance was a Lifetime Member and served a term as President of the Macon Council of Telephone Pioneers, a service organization of retired telephone company employees. She instilled a strong work ethic in her children by modeling a commitment and loyalty to the company for which she worked for 40 years.

In her younger years, she was a great skater and taught her children to enjoy roller skating among other activities. She, along with some of her siblings, taught herself how to play the guitar and when the DuBose Clan gathered, there was always music! She was a very family-oriented person and was always close to all her siblings, but she was very proud of her brother, Carroll DuBose, who was a Pearl Harbor survivor.

Mrs. Chance was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist for 66 years and was a member of the Neva Carden Sunday School Class. She was a former Choir Member, GA and Acteens Leader, and past Ebenezer Baptist Association Acteens Director. If she could put one foot in front of the other, she would be found in the Lord’s House each Sunday, even after suffering a broken hip at age 90 in 2017. Her faith in Jesus guided her everyday life. She never complained and always found joy in even the smallest things. “Nanny” (as she was called by her grandchildren) loved, adored, and was so proud of every member of her family. She loved sharing her home with family and friends.

Survivors include her three children, Sandra (Aaron) Neal, Cynthia (Kenny) Newby, and John (Cheri) Chance; 14 Grandchildren, Jennifer Ogden, Andy (Brandi) Thompson, Amy (Randy) Tanner, Mark (Kathy) Neal, Amber (Curt) Montgomery, Dane (Brooke) Newby, Kyle (Bethany) Newby, Mattie Hamilton, Annie Chance, John Roland Chance, Emmie Chance, Harley Roberts, Hannah Roberts, and Bret Roberts; 20 Great-Grandchildren, Nathan, Sarah, Sam, Lindsay, Andrew (Ashlyn), Abigail, Noah, Rachel, Luke, Maggie, Maisie, Blaze, Savannah, Janah, Hannah Beth, Hunter, Adams (Shannon), Whitman (Cassie), Brittany, and Bryant (Christy): 4 Great Great Grands, Graham, Marleigh, Madison, and Luke,

“Miss” Neomia’s family would like to thank her very special caregivers, Deloise Tinsley, Veronica Kyler, Elizabeth Balkom, Winnie Nobles, and Sheila Royster for the love and exemplary care they gave their Mother through the past six years.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 Saturday, March 16, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 4013 GA Hwy 358, Danville, GA 31017.
