DANVILLE – James Davis (David) Whitaker, Sr., of Sanders-Whitaker Rd., passed away Friday at his residence. Services will be held Monday November 20, 2017 at 300PM in Mount Zion Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Dwayne Bedingfield and Elder Franklin Bryant will officiate. Mr. Whitaker was born in Macon, GA the son of the late James Buford (J.B.) and Janie Davis Whitaker. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a BBA Degree. David was retired from J. M. Huber where he was the Director of Human Resources for over 30 years. He was the Executive Director of the Georgia Employee Association for the Southeastern Region. David was a former President of the Georgia Cattlemens Association and a member of the Georgia Farm Bureau. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Chairman of various committees. David was a Black Belt in Karate and enjoyed Tae Kwon Do. He was an avid jogger having participated in multiple 5K and Triathlon events. He was a former employee of Hospice of Houston County, and was a founder and Business Manager of Bleckleyprogress.com. David was a Veteran of the National Guard. Above all he was a devoted Father, Brother, and friend. Survivors include his son, James D. (Dave) Whitaker, Jr., his daughter Dr. April Whitaker. Sister Shari (John) Dobbs. Nieces and Nephews, Steve and Rachel Norris, and Tammy and Bruce Marshall. Great Nieces and Nephews, Brook and Caitlin Norris and Brinkley Marshall.
