James Walton “Jim” Newberry, Sr. POWERSVILLE, GA - James Walton Newberry, Sr., loving husband and father of four, gained his angel’s wings on Friday, July 2, 2021, at the age of 80. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Eric Newberry. Jim married Jane French on March 17, 1985, and they shared 36 beautiful years together. After graduating from Ft. Valley High School in 1958, he attended Mercer University where he studied Business Management. Jim was an accountant by profession where he was Exec. Dir. of Vita Home Health and also owner of Newberry Accounting Services. He shared his gift with mathematics by serving as Treasurer for the Peach County Republican Party, City Auditor for the City of Byron, and Financial Secretary of 1st Christian Church in Macon, GA. His love of woodworking could be seen in his birdhouses, gazebos, personalized toyboxes from “Poppi” for each of his many grandchildren and also in the construction of his mountain home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Buchanan, VA, overlooking the James River. In addition to his love of the mountains, he and his wife spent much time enjoying the waters of Cape San Blas, FL. Jim was known for his ever-present smile, his kind and compassionate spirit, and his love for the Lord. He is survived by his wife, Jane French Newberry of Powersville; son, James Walton Newberry, Jr., of Macon; daughter Lisa Newberry Gootee of Byron, GA; daughter Dana Raburn Calloway (Tommy) of Warne, NC; and son, Clint Raburn (Amy) of Milledgeville, GA; siblings Jack Newberry (Maggie) of Rogers, AR; Pat Adams of Powersville; and Leslie White (Paul) of Monticello, GA; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
