JEFFERSONVILLE – Mary Lazelle Lucas Payne, 94, of Hwy 96, passed away Friday September 20, 2024 at her residence.

Services will be held Tuesday September 24, 2024 at 3:00PM at the Jeffersonville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Jeffersonville City Cemetery. Rev. Bob Powell and Rev. Steve Hamrick will officiate.

Mrs. Payne was born in Danville, GA, the daughter of the late Nedham Lucas and Willie Louisa Arnold Lucas. She was the widow of the late Earnest O’Neil Payne and was preceded in death by her siblings, Bernice Hill, Melba Hamrick, Cletia Hamrick and Doc Lucas. By her Grandsons Jacob Payne and Ramsey Payne. Her daughter in law Rebecca Payne. Our mother was a fine Christian Southern Lady. She was a woman with strength and dignity. She was a family woman who participated in all her children’s lives supporting them and following them and all their activities and sports. She loved basketball even unto the end of her life. She watched the professional teams and enjoyed March madness. Lazelle worked for Pilot Club International for 40 years as office manager. She loved traveling too, and working the yearly conventions. Her traveling companions were Patti Foster, her closest friend, and also her best friends from the pilot club. She loved having her grandchildren around.

Survivors include her children, Connie P. McInturff, Reggie (Katherine) Payne, Terry Payne, Keith (Sheila) Payne and Jeff (Lynn) Payne. Eleven Grandchildren, Thirteen Great Grandchildren, and Two Great Great Grandchildren. Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Monday in the funeral home.
