Norman O. Meyer JEFFERSONVILLE, GA – Norman Oscar Meyer, 83 passed away December 17, 2021. Funeral services will be held Tuesday December 28, 2021 at 11 am at the Voice of Truth Church 505 Cross Justice Rd. Irwinton, GA 31042. Pastors Terry Sark, Phil Mills and Richard Jones will be officiating. Burial will follow at 3pm at Zion Hope Cemetery 706 Antioch Rd. Cordele, GA 31010. Norman was born April 23, 1938 to the late Norman Charles and Helen Elizabeth (Ozemko). He passed away due to complications due to an injury received on November 3. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his grandson Benjamin Douglas Knisley. Norman was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating. The Boy Scouts played an important role in Normans knowledge and enjoyment of the outdoors. He was an explorer until he was 21 years old and earned the Silver Award. The skills he learned as a boy scout were used to help, maintain, tie-off, build, fix and enhance various projects through the years. The garage was Norman’s domain where he worked on cars, trucks, jeeps and anything with four wheels he could tow home. Norman also maintained family vehicles, built swamp buggies airboats worked on restoring a 1957 Ford Fairlane, kept quad runners running for both work in the pecan orchard and fun times for the grandchildren. He also kept his 2001 F-250 running for more than 582,108 miles. Norman served in the United States Air Force Reserve and retired from Florida Power and Light after 37 years. His career at FP&L started with his being a helper, truck driver, and then Lineman. Normans service to his country and his work as a lineman were ended with the loss of his hand due to an electrical burn. Norman went on to be an automotive supervisor and dispatcher for the power company. After retiring Norman served the community through volunteering with CASA, being Tag-a-Long the clown, getting involved with the Georgia Fire Fighters Burn Foundation, and serving on the Twiggs County Board of Equalization. He was an active member of the Voice of Truth and served as a greeter. This church family has prayed and helped Norman and Nedra through several illnesses and injuries over the years. Survivors include his wife of 61 years Nedra Ann Wade Meyer; daughter Norma Gail “Nonie” (Doug) Knisley; five grandchildren, Cassandra Lachelle (John) Bucklew, Tiffany Rachel Knisley, Joshua Andrew Knisley, Katherine Joy Knisley, Tyler James Knisley, several nieces and nephews, and his helper Joshua Lewis. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday December 27, 2021 at the Voice of Truth Church 505 Cross Justice Rd. Irwinton, GA 31042.
