Phyllis Martin Farmer September 7, 1948 – July 27, 2018 MACON, GA Family, and those that considered themselves part of her family, mourn the loss of their beloved Phyllis, known as Gigi to her grandchildren, and to many others. She was fiercely loyal to the myriad of friends in her orbit. Phyllis celebrated good fortune when it was bestowed on her friends and was the first to show up with comfort food and a big helping of heartfelt concern when the chips were down. Traveling with old friends and the constant companionship of her dog Jack Sparrow and cat, Boo Berry, were among her greatest pleasures. Born and educated in Wilkinson County, she was the daughter of the late Marguerite Bloodworth Carr and of the late Virgil Martin. Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Tiffany (Jay) Nelson, her grandchildren, Nathan Slocumb, Natalie Toole (LaDon), Katie Berry Moody, Mac Nelson and Sam Nelson, for whom she was an avid cheerleader in their every endeavor. Gigi recently welcomed first great-grandson, Thomas Hugh Toole, who succeeded in having his Gigi in the palm of his small hand; she also delighted in the curiosity of her great-granddaughter, Rowan Nelson. Also left to cherish special memories of Phyllis, are: her sister Delores Southall (Jimmy), whom she adored, her brother, Douglas Martin, three nieces, two nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her longtime love, Hugh Hudson. As the owner of Events Made Special, Phyllis was the quintessential event planner for over 30 years. Her expertise and attention to detail infused any occasion with elegance and fun. She was responsible for the first Design, Wine and Dine Festival, which became an annual event, for Historic Macon Foundation; she volunteered her expertise to facilitate Dinner in the Orchard, the annual, hugely successful fundraiser for Twin Cedars at the Georgia Industrial Children’s Home. Phyllis orchestrated numerous charitable events and fundraisers held throughout Georgia. Some of those include the “Georgia on My Plate” culinary event held during the 1996 Olympics, at the Macon Coliseum featuring stellar guest chefs cooking with local celebrities; Camp Little Shot for the Jones Diabetes Center, the annual galas to support Pine Pointe Hospice, and the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame’s annual induction ceremony. Phyllis received endless joy and fulfillment as the person who helped make so many wedding celebrations unforgettable, and will be affectionately remembered by so many married couples for creating a magical occasion. Services for Phyllis will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Gray United Methodist Church in Gray, Georgia at 2:00pm, with Rev. John Haney and Rev. Jason Dillard officiating.
