Sam Floyd, Jr. DANVILLE – Sam Floyd, Jr., 83, of Sam Floyd Rd. passed away Wednesday June 17, 2020. Graveside services will be held Saturday June 20, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Floyd Family Cemetery. Mr. Floyd was born and lived his entire life in Danville, GA. He was the son of the late Sam and Chloe Floyd, and was preceded in death by his sister Sally Floyd Arrendale, his niece, Nancy Layne Arnold, nephew Jeff Floyd and his great niece Evie Slappey. Sam was a graduate of Danville High School where he was the Valedictorian of his graduating class. He began farming in 1956 and was semi-retired for the last few years. In his younger years Sam enjoyed playing and coaching softball. He enjoyed fox hunting and raising fox dogs. If you asked Sam what he enjoyed most he would tell you his boys. He loved watching them play ball, work cattle, and farm. He had a deep love for his family and the land. Sam served on many agricultural boards and supported the industry throughout his farming career. He served on the Georgia Cotton Commission Advisory Board, Farm Service Agency county committee, Region IV Soil and Water Conservation District Board since 1981, the Twiggs County Farm Bureau Board. He was honored in the Peanut Achievement Club in 1979, received the Young Farmer Award for Twiggs County, and was the District 4 Peanut Farmer of the year in 2015. Survivors include his sons, Clay (Sherry) Floyd and David (Lianne) Floyd. Grandchildren Kyle Floyd, Tori Floyd, and Lainey Floyd. Great Grandchildren, Emily Floyd, Rhett Floyd, Olivia Floyd and Sam Wallace. His siblings, Ruth Arnold, Jack Floyd, Pat Floyd and Felix Floyd. Many Nieces and Nephews.
