ATHENS, GA – James Larry Wilson, known to all as Larry, passed away at home in Athens, Georgia surrounded by immediate family on October 28, 2023, at the age of 86 years old. Born January 29, 1937, in Irwinville, Georgia, Larry was the son of John William Wilson and Eula Wright Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister Judye Holyoake and brothers Bill Wilson and Jerry Wilson.

Larry’s early childhood was spent working in the cotton and tobacco fields in Irwin County, Georgia. He attended Irwin County schools in Ocilla, Georgia. It was at Irwin County schools that he played the game he loved, baseball. Following his education, Larry served in the Air Force, proudly dedicating himself to protecting our nation, in 1955. After his service Larry came back home and attended The University of Georgia, graduating in 1963. After graduation from The University of Georgia, Larry moved to middle Georgia where he would meet his love Annie Jean Little and they married in Jeffersonville, Georgia, and recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. He spent 35 years as an educator in various towns around the state of Georgia, retiring in 2003.

Larry is survived by his sister Joy McDaniel, his loving wife Annie Jean Wilson, and their daughters Libby Wilson Salvador, Chala Iva Wilson and their son Chad Larry Wilson (Angie Smallwood Wilson). He was a cherished grandfather to Reagan Caroline Salvador, James Jake Wilson, Reece Kathryn Salvador and Milo Wilson Davidson.

A graveside service will take place of October 30, 2023 at 11:00 am at Cool Springs Primitive Baptist Church in Danville, Georgia.
