DANVILLE – Ophelia Zell Carden Mullis, 79, of Carden Rd. passed away Sunday in Atlanta.


Services will be held Tuesday October 15, 2024. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM and Funeral will be at 2:00 PM at Reece Funeral Home.  Rev. Ken Land will officiate.


Mrs. Mullis was born in Danville, GA, the daughter of the late Olen and Lessie Collins Carden. She was the widow of the late Jimmy Mullis. Ophelia was a graduate of Twiggs County High School where she was a Majorette, active in 4-H and a member of the Future Homemakers of America. At ABAC she was the 4-H Vice President, Derby Day Representative and Derby Queen 1st Runner Up, Publicity Chairman for the Home Economics Club, active in the Baptist Student Union, Glee Club, Vespers, Alumni Secretary, she was a Cheerleader and was on the Who’s Who Homecoming Court. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Family & Consumer Sciences. At UGA she was a soloist Majorette and a member of several clubs. Ophelia was a former County Extension Agent for Johnson County where she had the pleasure of impacting many kids one being Herschel Walker. She received her teaching certificate in 1968. In 1997 she furthered her education at Georgia College and received her Masters Degree in Special Education. Ophelia was a Teacher at West Laurens High School 9th -12th Special Education where she was recognized for her achievements in Vocational Enrichment. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Ophelia loved spending time with her family, and loved her Georgia Bulldogs.


Survivors include her children, Kim (Tim) Howell, and Jay (Kimbo) Mullis.


Step-Daughters, Debbie (Walt) Bryan, and Michelle Forehand.


Grandchildren, Will Dennard, Piper Mullis, Brooke Howell, Tyler Howell, Haleigh Wood, Ally Lauber, Kayce Lauber, Bo Bryan, Morgan Forehand, and Landon Forehand and three Great Grandchildren.


Brothers, Frank Carden and Terry (Alberta) Carden. Her sister, Oleane (Bob) Zenoble.
