Rev. Charles W. Carter
JEFFERSONVILLE - Reverend Charles W. Carter, of Jeffersonville, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2026.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Thursday March 12, 2026 in Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Danny Young and Harold Reece Jr. will officiate.
Charles was born in Twiggs County on April 19,1943, to the late Colothree and Louise Carter. After a career in truck driving, he was ordained as a deacon at Southside Baptist Church in 1980 and was ordained as a minister in 1987 at Lambs Chapel. In 2004 he accepted the call to be the pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in Twiggs County where he served 22 years.
He had a genuine love for people and a heart for serving the Lord. Whether he was visiting someone in their home, sitting by a hospital bed, or greeting someone at church, he always took time to listen, encourage, and pray. Many remember his warm smile, kind spirit, and the way he made everyone feel welcome and valued.
As a pastor, he faithfully shepherded his congregation with humility and compassion. His sermons were heartfelt and sincere, and his greatest desire was simply to help others know the Lord and grow in their faith. He believed deeply in caring for his church family and his community, and he lived out that calling every day. More than anything, he will be remembered for his strong faith, his servant’s heart, and the love he showed to everyone he met. His life left a lasting mark on his family, his church, and the many friends whose lives were brighter because they knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Billie Ann, his sisters Betty Dent, Ethel Shelley and Rachel Spires.
He is survived by his sons and their wives, Robby (Rhonda) Carter of Sumter, South Carolina, Scott (Debra) Carter of Macon, Georgia and Michael (Angie) of Macon, Georgia. His Brother Jerry (Peggy) Carter. Grandchildren Deana (Ryan) Bode, Tyler Carter, Zack (Madi) Carter, Haley Carter, Jordan Carter and Jessica Carter. 7 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 11:00AM before services in the funeral home
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Charles’ memory to Friendship Baptist Church, P.O. Box 816, Jeffersonville, Georgia
