DANVILLE – Richard Gene Spires, 94 of Hwy 112, passed away Thursday May 22, 2025 in Toomsboro.

Graveside services will be held Sunday May 25, 2025 at 2:30PM in Walnut Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Fred Edwards and Rev. Norm Yukers will officiate.

Mr. Spires was born in Danville, GA, the son of the late R.D. Spires and Mattie Rue Cook Spires. He was the widower of the late Almedia “Tootsie” Payne Spires his childhood Sweetheart for over 64 years, and was preceded in death by his infant Daughter Gail Dianne Spires and his Granddaughter Amy Rickerson. Mr. Gene was a life long resident of Wilkinson County. Gene was a “Swamp Logger” for almost 50 years and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of Walnut Creek Baptist Church. Gene loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with all of them.

Survivors include his children, Wanda (Walker) Knowles, Rhett (Kathy) Spires, and Nancy (Robert) Rickerson. Grandchildren, Emily (Bob) McWhorter, Benji (Emily) Knowles, Heath (Ashley) Spires, Heather (Josh) Floyd, and Kris (Paula) Rickerson. Great Grandchildren, Kathryn McWhorter, Grayson Knowles, Sophie Knowles, Darci Spires, Holt Spires, Brannen Spires, Kacey Rickerson, and Korie Rickerson.

The family will not be receiving friends at a residence but will receive friends before and after services in the cemetery.
